The 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 isn’t exactly fast, but since it has the “Z-TEC” engine it does have some kick to it once it reaches around 4500 RPM. It might seem like a “quick little car” to the ordinary driver, until an amazing 2010 Ford Mustand Shelby GT500 comes cruising past you at around 120 mph, while still accelerating with a huge “ROAR” closely following in its’ path. When the boss of all new Fords comes rushing past, the Escort ZX2 becomes merely a go-cart, slugging along the highway.
When the 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 came rushing past me in my 99′ Ford Escort ZX2, that’s exactly how I felt! However, just seeing one cruise past me wasn’t enough. I went out to search for information on this amazing creation and found it to be one of the beautifulest cars Ford has created in some time.
The 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a simply a Mustang with an updated drivetrain, engine, and exterior modifications, which beef up the car to a price of around $45,000. The drivetrain has been modified to handle the upgraded supercharged and intercooled engine, featuring 540 horsepower, which can get the Shelby GT500 up to 60 miles per hour in just over 4 seconds! For the exterior, they added on 19 inch wheels, with 18’s on the GT500 convertible model, with Goodyear F1 sport racing tires.
Although Shelby’s designers did modify the engine and some exterior aspects, they did not alter or upgrade the suspension. Having so much power on the stock Mustang’s suspension could prove to be a very unbalanced machine when you are taking corners at speeds over 40-60 miles per hour; however, with a couple upgrades, the 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 could be a top of the line, performance machine, able to beat almost all other cars in it’s price range.
